Types of dog vomit.

Here’s a quick guide on types of dog vomit and what they might mean. Always check with your vet, especially if vomiting is frequent or accompanied by other symptoms.

1. White, Foamy

• Possible Cause: Acid reflux.
• Note: Could be serious if frequent, especially with pain or a bloated abdomen.
• Action: See your vet immediately.

2. Grassy

• Possible Cause: Dogs may eat grass to soothe their stomach, out of boredom, or for taste.
• Action: If excessive, consult your vet.

3. Yellow

• Possible Cause: Very common when a dog is on an empty stomach. The yellow colour is due to bile secretions.
• Action: See your vet if it happens frequently.

4. Bloody

• Possible Cause: Blood in vomit can appear bright red, gelatinous, or like coffee grounds.
• Action: See your vet immediately.

5. Clear, Liquid

• Possible Cause: Often due to drinking water too quickly.
• Action: Call your vet if it’s repeated or severe.

6. Brown

• Possible Cause: Could be undigested kibble, fecal matter, or even blood.
• Action: Contact your vet immediately.

7. Mucusy, Slimy, or Moldy

• Possible Cause: May signal parasites, spoiled food, or contaminated water.
• Action: Call your vet for an evaluation.

In all cases, monitor your dog closely, especially if vomiting is accompanied by diarrhea, lethargy, or signs of pain.
